About This Guide

Who publishes The Noir Dossier, how its twelve chapters are researched and checked, what the site collects about visitors, and the terms under which the text may be quoted or reused.

[01] Publisher

The Noir Dossier is published by a private individual, in a personal and non-commercial capacity. It is not a business, sells nothing, runs no advertising and accepts no sponsored placement or paid mention.

Correspondence is by email only, at [email protected]. There is no contact form, no phone line and no mailing list, because a static guide has no ongoing use for any of them.

[02] How the Chapters Are Researched

Each chapter is built around claims that fall into two categories, kept visibly separate as far as the writing allows. Historical and biographical facts, release years, directors, publication dates, named events, are drawn from long-established, widely corroborated film and literary history and are not specific to any single source. Interpretive claims, why a device works a certain way, what a critical tradition emphasizes, are presented as interpretation, generally introduced with language such as "critics often" or "historians point to," rather than stated as settled fact.

Nothing on this site is invented: no fabricated quotations, no invented statistics, and no claims about real people beyond what is part of the public historical and critical record on film noir.

[03] Privacy and Hosting

These pages are plain static files. There is no analytics script, no advertising script, no embedded video player, no web font loaded from elsewhere, and no cookie set by this site. Nothing you read here is recorded by the author, because there is nothing on these pages capable of recording it.

The files are served by Cloudflare Pages, a static hosting service operated by Cloudflare, Inc. Like any web host, it processes the technical request data required to deliver a page and to protect the service, under its own terms.

If you write to the contact address above, your message and your email address exist only in that mailbox, are used only to reply, and are never added to any list.

[04] Copyright and Reuse

The text on this site is the author's own writing and remains the author's property. Quoting a short passage with a link back to the original chapter is welcome and needs no separate permission. Republishing a full chapter elsewhere does need permission, which can be requested at the contact address above.

Film titles, release years and other factual details referenced throughout the guide belong to their respective owners and are discussed here as historical fact and critical commentary, not reproduced.

[05] Corrections

This guide covers film history spanning a century, and errors are possible despite care taken in writing it. If you notice a factual mistake, a broken link or an outdated reference, write to [email protected] with the chapter name and the specific line in question. Corrections are made directly in the chapter, and the "updated" date shown at the top of that chapter is revised to match.
